Debra's story

Debra is on a fixed income, and recently became homeless. She heard about Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa through family members. She eats at Loaves and Fishes five times per week, and Loaves and Fishes is the only place she can get a hot meal. She cannot use groceries or a food pantry because she is homeless, so she has no way to fix a meal or store food.

Wherever she is in Antioch, she always comes to Loaves and Fishes to eat because she knows she can get a good hot meal and it is a safe and peaceful place. She would be hungry without Loaves and Fishes.  She likes that Loaves and Fishes includes all the food groups in the daily meal. She has some health issues, so she credits Loaves and Fishes for part of why she is literally still alive. Because the Loaves and Fishes food is nutritional, she feels her health has improved.
